Current Data

Smith College's Archibald and Ada MacLeish Field Station is located on the western slope of the Connecticut River Valley in rural Massachusetts (42 deg 26' 54" N, 72 deg 40' 50" W). Air quality at the site is influenced by pollution transport from the New York-Washington corridor, by relatively clean air from New York State and Canada, and by local emission that can become trapped in the valley. Continuous measurements made from the top of an 80-foot tower include ozone and carbon monoxide (EPA criteria pollutants), nitric oxide (a catalyst for ozone formation), and meteorological variables (wind speed and direction, temperature, pressure, and relative humidity). The Environmental Field Station is intended to support growing regional collaboration in ecological, hydrologic, and atmospheric research. Funding has been provided by Smith College, the University of New Hampshire, and NOAA.
